PRIVACY POLICY

We'll always make sure your data is kept securely, and for no longer than we need it. This page outlines what we do with your data; if you have any questions please email info@fusionchemsoc.co.uk.

Fusion (Chemistry Society) ("we") collect personal data through a variety of means: through our questionnaires and online forms, from our email newsletters, from Bristol SU and from University of Bristol on occasions.

We also collect anonymous data, such as insights from social media.

When we collect data, we aim to be transparent and clear about their intended uses and when these data will be destroyed. We also give users an option to remove their data from our system.

Why do we collect your data?

  • To contact you

  • To provide a personal service, such as addressing emails with your name

  • To provide support, for example if you are in a minority group and would like to join one of our Networks

  • To improve our provision for members, such as when receiving feedback about events

Where appropriate, data collected is anonymised, when we do not need to know whose data that is.

For our email newsletters (using Mailchimp), we collect your first name, last name, email address and year group. We ask for your name so that we can personalise the email to you, and also so that we can track opens, clicks of links and more using the Mailchimp platform. We ask for your year group so that year group specific information can be sent to you. We store this data within Mailchimp's platform.

When you become a member of Fusion, via Bristol SU's website, we collect your name, email address, date of birth, University ID (e.g. ab12345) and ask you whether you'd like to join our family scheme. This data is stored within Bristol SU's servers and the name, email and year group (determined from the University ID) is transferred to Mailchimp's platform.

You can remove your data from Mailchimp by clicking "unsubscribe" at the bottom of any of our emails, and you can remove your data from our area of Bristol SU's website by emailing us.

We have a number of forms (such as using Microsoft Forms, Google Forms or Typeform) which collect data for certain purposes: to register interest for Fusion, sign up for an event, provide feedback on an event or service and more. Data collected here is stored as long as is necessary. For example, it would be deleted after that event, unless you explicitly agreed to your data being stored for longer. For our register interest form, your data will be transferred to Mailchimp so that we can contact you via our email newsletter.

Data will only be removed from Mailchimp if you request it.

Family scheme

Parents: if you sign up to become a parent, you consent to your data (name) being shared with the "children" you are assigned to. Your email address is used to send you details of your family, and we ask if you are a non-drinker to match families better, and provide a better experience for students.

Children (first years): if you sign up to join a family (through our form or through Bristol SU), you consent to your data (name and email address) being shared with the "parents" you are assigned to. Your email address is also used to send you details of your family, and we ask if you are a non-drinker to match families better, and provide you with a better experience.

If you have any questions about us storing your data, deleting your data or any other privacy concerns, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to help.
